In 2012 Em was tail ended in a car accident in Sydney causing severe damage to her hip and pelvis. Emma needs help to regain her life.
Auckland
On Oct 12th 2012 Emma’s life suddenly changed. She was tail ended. This car accident injured her hip and pelvis. Over 2 years on Em has undergone 2 hip surgeries and hundreds of Physiotherapy and other treatment appointments.
Em stopped working as a Physiotherapist on May 30th 2014 and had her first surgery on June 4th in New Zealand; her second was on January 28th this year.
Em has not been able to receive any financial support from the government in Australia or New Zealand. Her partner and family are no longer able to meet the treatment and medical costs.
She has put a case forward to try and get compensation, however that is proving to be a very costly and an anxiety producing process. Emma and her partner have had to front all her medical and rehabilitation bills as well as $3000 for a medical report, required for the compensation process, to try and claim some of the thousands of dollars her partner has lost trying to help her get her health back.
The prolonged stress, anxiety and medication has now caused her to develop secondary issues and this has meant she has to incur further costs for the doctor, tests and medications.
Emma is currently still working on building her standing, sitting, driving and walking tolerance. She still needs regular rests during the day and is on regular meds for her pain. Em’s personal best for unsupported walking on flat ground is approximately 150m.
Emma is diligently working to regain her independence, and her previous life. To date those efforts have not yet translated to function. Recent investigations have revealed that she has significant ligament damage to her Sacroiliac Joint due to trauma. Emma believes that this is the missing link to her recovery and why, despite all her efforts, she has not yet been able to return to the normal activities of daily living and work.
To stabilise her sacroiliac joint Em will require specialised treatment over a period of 3 or more months. The cost of this is going to be a minimum of $4000-5000. All conservative strategies have been unsuccessful and this is a new pathway of hope.
Emma is very grateful for an extremely supportive partner and family. Her journey has been a long one and any donation to help pay some of her medical costs to help her on this new path would be greatly appreciated and would help relieve a lot of unwanted stress from her and her partner and family.
There is no price on health. Never take it for granted!
Emma is my cousin whom I love dearly and it is my deepest wish for her to return to a normal life.
