Phoebe was born with congenital heart disease. She will need a personal AED and other equipment and support on her journey.
Wellington
Phoebe has has three open heart surgeries. These surgeries are pallative, meaning they are not a cure but will hopefully extend her life to an age where she can have a heart transplant. She was born with half a heart and now has a single ventricle heart that will never function as well as our hearts. She is at risk of heart failure, seizure and cardiac arrest. She starts school next year and needs to have a Defribulator at her school. In many countries this is a norm to have one in a school but not here in NZ. St Johns have advised us that once cardiac arrest has occurred you have only about five minutes to use an AED to save a life. We are fundraising to get an AED for Phoebe to have at school and at home as she grows up and becomes more active in her life. She will do doubt have other needs as we look into the future supporting Phoebe and her family in this journey.
I am Phoebes Mum. Phoebe is amazing. She has been through a lot in her four years. It is a miracle she is here with us. The costs of her condition has impacted greatly on our lives and we have coped thus far however your support to help us get this equipment would make our life easier long term.
