Help get Amanda and Paul to the IFDS Worlds 2015 in Melbourne

Auckland

Amanda started sailing in March 2015 and has never looked back since.

When the chance arose for her to participate in the IFDS Worlds 2015 with Paul Webber, she was thrilled to accept the challenge.

At just 6 weeks old Amanda became short-sighted in her right eye and lost her left eye due to Retinoblastoma just before her second birthday. The cancer of the Retina, was passed down from her father, who at the time was not aware that it is hereditary. Since then Amanda continues life to fullest with IFDS Worlds 2015 adding to the list of challenges she has accepted.

Amanda sails in a SKUD 18 controlling all of the10 ropes with Paul Webber, as her sighted Helm. In 1993 Paul fractured his neck diving into a swimming pool, which left him with tetraplegia. It took Paul 20 years later to begin sailing in a SKUD 18 where he has achieved both a 1st and 2nd place in local and national level regattas.

IFDS Worlds 2015 will be the pairs first international competition together. Amanda is aiming for an optimistic 3rd place, while Paul's main goal is for the pair not to finish last. Despite the pairs relatively new joining, they will certainly give the other boats a run for there money!

During training the two are often leading against the 2 other SKUD's that they train with. Amanda's team often forgets that she has only been sailing for 5 months and is often told she is a natural!

All good things have to come to an end...  9 December 2015

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to my cause!!! After settling back into New Zealand's time zone and climate and coming down with a cold, i thought it would be time to let you all know how i did. We came an amazing 15th out of a total of 17 boats! This has been a huge achievement for Paul and I who faced teams that had been competing together for more then one year. I am extremely grateful for all the donations made, it would not have been possible without your help. I am hoping to return to Melbourne to sail in next years or coming years Sail Melbourne so watch this space!! Such an amazing experience that i am extremely grateful for. On a final note: a huge THANK YOU to my parents, Paul, John (Paul's father), Cathy (Paul's wife) and Nathan (our coach) for all the support you gave me throughout the trip.
