Trying to break the world record for 10k on arm crutches raising money for Starship Foundation
Auckland
My name is Brad Luiten and I am a runner.
In September I received a stress fracture my leg and have been unable to run ever since. I had planned to do the Auckland Half Marathon for The Starship Foundation but due to the injury I was unable to compete.
I am a competitive person and needed a goal so decided to see what I could do while unable to run. I found the world record for 10k on crutches online and decided to have a go at this and in the mean time raise funds for The Starship Foundation as I was meant to in the Auckland Half Marathon.
I discussed this with the team at Running Events as to attempt this at the Albany Lakes 10k run on January 18th and they were very happy for me to do this at their event.
I am raising as much money as possible for the Starship Foundation but would also like some gaming consoles donated as well to go directly to the hospital. We recently had friends who were in Starship and there wasn't much to do in the wards. They had TV's in the ward but there were limited gaming consoles available to take the kids minds off why they are in hospital and this could help to make their stay a little more bearable. )You can email on bluiten81@gmail.com to arrange pick up or delivery of consoles.)
I'm involved with the Starship Foundation as I believe they do an amazing job to look after the children who are sick and injured. I have 2 children myself and thankfully I have only had to go to Starship for minor procedures but am comforted to know that should the unthinkable happen to my kids that there is the support and capabilities to look after them as much as needed to regain their health.
Thanks Mel :) Was a bit of madness haha
