Breigh is training to be a yoga teacher and is raising funds to travel to and from her course. Namaste!
Nelson / Tasman
Breigh is starting this Givealttle page to raise funds to help her travel between Nelson, Wellington and Bali to attend a prestigious yoga teaching course.
She will be studying between September and December this year and will be working at an established and popular yoga studio in Nelson from January 2016.
Funds raised will cover flights, vaccines, travel insurance, accommodation, course material and manuals and other associated travel costs.
This is an exciting life changing opportunity for Breigh as becoming a yoga teacher has been a long term personal goal. She is passionate about being able to teach students a wonderful skill for wellness and happiness.
Breigh is also an actress and yoga has been an amazing tool for her personally, for a healthy body and a healthy mind.

When I was three, I was diagnosed with congenital pseudarthrosis of the right clavicle. I was the 9th person in the world to be recorded with this condition. It means I have this strange looking lump where my right clavicle should be, and it pushes my right scapula down and out, so it looks like I have really prominent 'wing' on one side of my body (I call it my chicken wing, and it can look really creepy when I wiggle it but it makes a cool clicking sound - so can be a good party trick with the right audience). I also have a short shoulder because of it - I can't wear hand bags on this side without it slipping off, and bra straps are my nemesis.
Lucky for me, having a petite frame makes this not as visually obvious as some others with this condition. It also makes my back really off balance, and my whole rib cage is kinda twisted around because of it and it then throws my hips out of balance...fun times!
I have lived with chronic low grade pain in my right shoulder and neck - my trapezius being the main culprit as it is the muscle I am constantly using to pull my right shoulder back to try and get some normal spinal alignment, which in turn means at the end of any given day, my muscles in my shoulders are super fatigued.
This causes headaches (sometimes, pretty severe ones), neck pain, and the overcompensation of my left shoulder and the rest of my back. There have been times when I have been trying to sleep, and lying on my back has felt so uncomfortable because my 'wing' is sticking out. If I sleep on my right side all night, forget about that day - I will probably be in a lot of pain from being scrunched up all night.
So where I am going with this? Yoga. This is where I am able to actually get some beneficial relief (that and regular massages from my partner in crime ;)).
I hope that when I am able to teach yoga, no, I know that when I teach yoga, I will be able to help people with all sorts of body ailments.
I am also a member of the anxiety club. For as long as I can remember I have had an anxious nature. If you have ever suffered from anxiety or know someone who has, you will know how crippling it can be.
My anxiety is very 'internal', and sometimes I don't know even know I am anxious. The long term outcome can lead to a very unwell body.
Yoga has been the constant remedy, primarily the focus of the breath. The breathing techniques I have learned in my practice have given me a useful tool during and outside practice, along with learning to honour myself and how I am feeling at any given moment, and listening to my body.
Physically, it has made my body stronger, and being active releases all those delicious feel-good endorphins and you know what the say? Healthy body, healthy mind.
Something else you may find interesting, is that I spend a great chunk of my week behind a computer, sitting at a desk in an office job. Gotta pay them bills!
This is not an ideal situation for the bod. Sitting, doing repetitive movements, and when I am concentrating I often slouch and my posture gets pretty poor.
Although I make sure everything is set up correctly, I try to move around and stretch regularly - I am pretty sure my body is not designed for this long term! It at least requires regular exercise to balance it all out.
My problems areas are my neck, shoulders, lower back and hips - so there is nothing better than starting and/or finishing the day with yoga practice.
I cannot recommend yoga as relief and prevention enough to any office bound workers.
