Give back to the Lady that gives so much to everyone else!

We need your help...

For one of our closest friends and colleagues Debbie Cheshire.

On 20 September 2012 Debbie collapsed here at work and was rushed into hospital.

Tragically, Debbie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade Four cancer of the brain, which is one of the most aggressive forms of brain tumours in humans. 50% of patients die within the year, and 90% pass away within three years, luckily for us, if we can use that word, Debbie is in the latter category and we have managed to enjoy good, quality time with her up to now. Debbie has multiple seizures a day ranging from small glitches in her eyes to major seizures which could easily cause her to fall into a coma. This is extremely distressing and no young family should have to deal with this on their own.

Debbie is an extremely independent woman who has raised three children, (Margaret 23, Tim 21 and Issy 19) on her own.

As well as bringing up her three children, Debbie has played a massive role in the local community of Browns Bay on the North Shore, where she has been a member of the coastguard since 2001, Debbie still attends all the meetings and training days/evenings when she can.

She also joined St Johns in 2009, where she was training to be a paramedic before she was struck down with her illness. To make ends meet Debbie worked in the Saint/Flax bar as a manager for seven years and then joined us here at Deep Creek Brews and Eats as a manager in 2011.

Debbie has remained strong and independent during the last two years and has never asked or wanted to burden anyone with her illness, which is a testament to how strong she is. Unfortunately Debbie is now finding it more difficult to manage everyday tasks which we take for granted, such as getting out of bed, getting dressed and cooking etc. She is currently receiving help from the hospice twice a day to help with her every day needs.

We have decided to organise a fund raising event to raise money to pay for a full time carer for Debbie, even if we only manage to raise enough money for a week or two, it will be a big help to the Cheshire family and our way of saying thank you to Debbie for all that she has done in our community and as a friend. Hopefully it will take some of the burden off the family so they can concentrate on spending more quality time together as a family as we know time for the Cheshire’s is precious and becoming limited.

Our fund raising event will be held here at Deep Creek Brews and Eats in Browns Bay on Sunday 17th May from 5pm. It will be a private fundraising event, however, in saying that, public are more than welcome to come along and donate or participate. We will have raffles, auctions and entertainment for you.

Please, if you have anything you can donate to this cause, it would be very much appreciated. We are not asking on behalf of a big organisation, this is a group of friends who want to try and make the most of a very special friendship before it’s tragically taken away from us.
