Help fund staff training in the Eden Alternative at Whare Aroha Care and raise awareness of Dementia by running the Rotorua 1/2 marathon
Wellington
More than 50,000 NZers suffer from a form of dementia. This will continue to increase owing to our aging demographic.
Our residents in care deserve to be treated with dignity and respect in a nurturing environment.
The Eden Alternative provides a set of values and principles that seek to improve the wellbeing of those in care through development of their carers.
Whare Aroha Care is a residential facility in Rotorua that takes care of our elderly including residents with high needs and dementia.
There are many ways to deal with residents in care but management has adopted the Eden Alternative as its guiding philosophy because it endeavours to address the issues our aged are commonly afflicted with, loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
Those in the caring profession perform a challenging and often under-appreciated role.
Raising funds for staff training in the Eden Alternative will:
E -Empower
D- Develop
E- Enable
N - Nurture
our carers and in turn, promote better outcomes in the quality of lives for our residents in care.
I am running the Rotorua 1/2 marathon on 2nd May 2015 to raise the funds for Eden training. Each course is approximately $1500 and ideally, I would like to raise enough money for at least 6 staff.
DISCLAIMER: I have every intention of completing the race, please consider the donation as non-refundable on the merits of the cause to empower carers through training
I am involved because my father was a resident at Whare Aroha Care. Through my contact with staff, the residents in care and their families, I wanted to do something to support the team as well as raising awareness of dementia.
