Doug’s got a long road to recovery ahead. Let’s lend a hand.
Auckland
On the evening of Saturday the 17th of October, our Doug went into cardiac arrest. It was some time before he could be revived despite the best efforts of people around him. The fact he was out with friends at the time very likely saved his life, but Doug’s condition is still serious and recovery will take time.
Doug is loved by a lot of people. He’s a difficult man not to like, with his infectious whole-of-body guffaws and his unnervingly broad general knowledge. We all have our set of favourite Doug moments that we’ve been playing in our heads for the last few weeks.
Anything donated here will go to help with the costs that come up during Doug’s recovery. That could include anything from supporting Doug directly to helping the family stay close-by over the coming months.
Doug could do with a hand, so how about it? Help however you can; your company, correspondence, cookies, or cash. In person or from afar. This is the communal bat-signal.
Thanks everyone.
For Doug!
I'm a friend of Doug's from high school here in New Zealand.
A few of us were looking for a way to help out, given the distances involved. So we set up this page to give Doug's friends all over the world a way to contribute.
Note from Doug's family 24 November 2015
Thank you to everyone who is supporting Doug. Now that he is physically so much better we hope his rehab proper will start very soon (this week we hope) and we will have an idea of how your very generous donations can be best used to aid this. The visits from the London contingent really are boosting his recovery and the photos, music and messages from everyone in New Zealand keep Doug well entertained. The many letters and cards have also been a great resource for us to use to reinforce Doug’s memory. We can’t say how much we appreciate all the support Adrienne and Doreen have had here in London and the help Rick has had in NZ. Special thanks must go to Dave and Dave (sounds like a comedy duo!) who have gone above and beyond anything that could have been asked of them to rally support.
