A group of six Kaitaia College students hope to give their terminally ill friend a trip of a lifetime and make her dreams come true, but they need your help.
Te Amohaere Rudolph, is an amazing student, friend, leader and student representative on the Board of Trustees at Kaitaia College. Her outgoing personality and charisma draws the admiration of not only her peers, but the staff and wider community of Kaitaia.
In December 2014, Te Amohaere had a relapse hepatoblastoma, a cancerous tumour in the liver that had been in remission since she was just three years old. Te Amohaere has been doing chemotherapy since December and took a break in February, but the tumor returned. Mum, Annie Laurie Rudolph said the family had a bitter reminder last week when she reacted badly to one of the chemo medications. "We nearly lost her," Annie said.
"Te Amohaere has always had a thing about going to Italy, so we had a family discussion and rather do a family trip we thought it would be cool if she did a trip with her close friends and made some cool memories with them," Annie said.
Since that seed was planted, six of Te Amohaere's closest friends, Jane Harvey, Hannah Wetzel, Kate Timperley, Erana Punshon, Heavon Levi and Allana Yerkovich have been planning the "dream trip."
The girls are hoping to fund-raise $45,000 for a European holiday in January that will cover the tickets of the seven girls and two parents.
Harvey said, "She's an amazing girl, she's going through a lot but you would never know. We want to make whatever time we do have count. She's in shock - it's gone from a dream to a goal!"
Harvey said according to the doctor, Te Amohaere would be fit to travel in the next few months but she had been given an estimated life expectancy of eight to nine months.
Annie Rudolph said the girls had been completely involved in every detail of booking the "dream trip" and Te Amohaere was blown away. "They went off and came back with an itinerary for the trip. They're such a good lot of girls, I call them the knights of the round table. When one moves they all move together."
Te Amohaere said she had stopped breathing a few times so she wished to make the most of her time with her friends and was excited about planning her European trip.
"My friends have gotten so involved! It feels awesome. I'm so grateful for all the support we've been getting."
Any donations made via this page will go directly to Te Amohaere and will be used to purchase flights for the seven girls and two adults. This will enable these girls to make the "dream trip" a reality, and create some special memories.
