Raising money for myself to represent New Zealand at the 2015 Techno 293 World Championships in Italy end of October this year
Bay of Plenty
World Championships Windsurfing Techno 293:
The Bic Techno 293 is a one design international youth windsurfing class. I have the privilege to represent New Zealand as a member of a team at the worlds 2015, which will take place in Sardinia, Italy. This is a big event, with last year 400 children from 28 different countries competing. The actual racing will be held over 8 days and I will be competing in the under 17 girls.
About me:
I am 14 years old and a year 9 student at Mount Maunganui College in Tauranga. At the age of 11, I got my first windsurfing experience through participating in a windsurf clinic. As my passion for horse riding was too great, I put windsurfing behind me until just recently. Due to an unfortunate accident, I was forced to give away my horse and slowly drifted back into windsurfing at the end of last year. Being back out on the water, my love for horses was forgotten and windsurfing became my priority.
Training:
I now race on the youth Olympic board and mostly train at my club, TYPBC which is based in Tauranga. To keep up with fitness I work out twice a week in the gym, play hockey in the first IX girls team and try to get out on the water as much as possible.
My achievements so far:
Under 17 girls National Champion
Under 17 girls North Island Champion
Under 17 girls Kendal Cup race series
And I am currently competing in the TYPBC winter series
My goal and wish:
My wish is to represent New Zealand in the best way I can. This opportunity will give me the so wanted experience of competing on international level and of course a fantastic experience of a lifetime.
Budget:
Since I started windsurfing again I have been fundraising for this international event by doing a variety of jobs throughout the year. But I need a further $6000 to make my dream come true.
All money raised will be used for myself to travel to Italy and to cover expenses such as airfares, accommodation and (charter) gear. Any more money coming in by donations will go to clinics and further coaching to improve my skills.
