Georgia to Miami to Represent NZ December 2015

Hi,

My name is Georgia Chandler. I am 16 years old, I am one of four children and I have lived in West Auckland all of my life. Dancing is my greatest passion. I have been dancing for 11 years. 3 years ago I found my greatest passion in dance, Salsa. I haven’t stopped dancing it since. I have won several titles both here and in Australia. My goal and dream is to one day bring all the knowledge I learn to New Zealand. I would then like to open a world class Salsa and Latin dance school in New Zealand. I want to do this to help other people much like me to achieve their goals.

I have achieved level 2 NCEA with excellence and will continue to study dance at level 3 next year. At the same time I would continue with my dance commitments which include; Candy Lane’s elite team and James Luck’s professional production of Artimis.

I have recently qualified for the semi finals at the World Latin Dance Cup in Miami. The World Latin Dance Cup is the worlds’ biggest and most complete Latin event. There is over 50 categories and dancers from 50 countries. However, to get there I need some support. I am about half way there. I received a scholarship from AMP and Rothbury. I was awarded with $5000 to use to assist me to get to there.

This event has been a goal of mine for a very long time now. Dance is one of the most important things in my life. Dance is something I hold very close to my heart. It is very special to me. This is because in 2008 I had a brain tumour and almost lost the ability to dance forever. This experience taught me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard. It also taught me to seize every opportunity I am given. The chance to perform and represent New Zealand on the world stage was one I could not let go. I am working really hard to fundraise and get support to get to this event. This is why I am reaching out to the community to ask for your help and support.

Previously with my old dance studio I participated in many fundraisers for events like this. However, the funds made were not used for the correct things for correct people who assisted in fundraising. I am trying to fundraise on my own with the help of family. This is a hard task and isn’t easy, this is why I need your support.

I would like to ask if you would to able to support me and assist me getting to Miami to be the first ever New Zealand youth to get to this competition. I am reaching out to people and businesses who could potentially help me get there.

I have not been able to seek employment at this moment in time due to my dance and school commitments. If you would be able to offer some form of sponsorship I would in turn be able to give back to your company or organisation in a way that suits you. For example, I am available for gigs like Christmas and work functions or fundraisers that your organisation plans on doing. I thank you for taking the time to read this and to consider helping me, I surely do appreciate it.

The cost for getting there alone with flights and accomodation is approximatly 10K and to date I have half of it and am working on a tight schedule to obtain the rest asap.

I would like to give New Zealand exposure on the world stage. I would like to gain knowledge from the world’s best, which are all at this event. With this knowledge I can bring it back to New Zealand and help grow the developing dance scene. The Salsa scene in New Zealand is still young and developing. The experience and knowledge I would gain I would be able to bring back home and teach others who are not able to get overseas and learn from these people.

The total cost of this trip is approximately $10,000.00. The reason the costs are so high is due to the fact that I need to take a chaperon with me, as I am too young to travel that far alone. There is a lot of risk traveling alone at a young age. Especially to a part of the world that I don’t know and is a long way away from home. While I realise this is a lot of money in tough economic times, I am needing to ask successful businesses company or organisation to help me on this occasion.
