I have been selected to go to my second junior world track cycling champs this year in Kazakhstan, Astana. I need your help to get there.
Canterbury
Olivia Podmore’s primary goal is very clear, she wants to be a World and Olympic champion and anyone that knows her or has seen her race believes she has the potential to make this goal a reality. Olivia has the determination, talent and passion needed for her aspirations but she needs funding to get to the next level.
Nothing unites New Zealand like one of our own making it big on the world stage. We are a sporting nation and athletes such as Valerie Adams, Danyon Loader, Rob Warddell and Sarah Ulmer have become revered household names despite most supporters having no particular interest in their code of choice.
Olivia is a track cycling sensation and is one New Zealand’s most promising juniors. She is getting better and stronger every year and her house is filled with medals and trophies that attest to her skill behind the handle bars of her bike. Already she has drawn the attention of the media and has an impressive resumé of winning rides including:
16 x national champ
4 x oceania champ
6th in world junior track champs, 500tt & sprint
There is no doubt Olivia has natural talent but couple that with her ambition, focus and determination and you have a combination that makes real champions.
Olivia’s coach, Hamish Ferguson has this to say about her prospects "In a series of competition based testing and lab based measurement at 15 Olivia has been producing power that matches World Class riders when they are aged 20-30. With room for greater development from more strength and experience the future looks very promising."
2015 is her second year as an Under 19 rider, making her eligible for her second Track Cycling Junior World Championships in Kazakhstan . This is the big time, and will be her second real taste of international competition and the second time the world will see her.
Her selection to represent New Zealand at the 2015 Junior World Track Cycling Championships has been made official, and she has this year to tick, Junior World Champion off her list of personal goals.
Olivia is primed and ready for the long road to reach the pinnacle of her sport. She has the full support of her family and they have nurtured and encouraged her love of cycling. Until now Olivia’s parents (Phil and Nienke) have borne the ever increasing expense of bikes, equipment, coaching and travel but as the stakes get higher so do the costs. Whilst the backing of your parents is imperative to the development of a well rounded young girl, who shows the promise of track cycling stardom - it is insufficient on it’s own to fund a campaign targeted at the world stage.
If Olivia is to achieve her dreams and help inspire the dreams of the next generation of New Zealand sporting greats she needs to execute a carefully considered plan.
You don’t have to look far to find a worthy cause in need of help and financial assistance. Some are trying to make a difference to the under-privileged and others are trying to make a difference by becoming an inspiration to others. Olivia Podmore fits the latter and at only 17 years old has already given many young girls a role model that they can relate to and connect with.
I need help funding the $8500 campaign, in this $8500 it will cover a racing trip to Adelaide, Australia. And the lead in camp and the actual flights and world champs cost. This is a lot of money and my parents have been funding me and my cycling since i was 9 years old! so any help would be greatly appreciated
On track 16 June 2015
Two weeks back from Adelaide and im back into the hard training and road racing, after a very successful trip to Australia including wins in the scratch and keirin I have left the country feeling confident in myself being able to walk away from the world champs with medals and hopefully a rainbow jersey. As you know being an athlete has its ups and downs, like getting sick and not winning from time to time, but I'm keeping my head up and training harder than ever! Bring on the next two months of preparation??
