Be part of the Costa Rica Sustainable Development Project. Your support will help to rebuild a medical clinic and school in a poor community
Wellington
This July, I will be travelling to Costa Rica with some school classmates to a poor town called Parrita to volunteer at a local school, medical clinic and environmental areas.
Some examples of the community work we will be doing in Parrita is:
-Build and restore the medical clinic and the primary school
-Teach French and English as well as learn Spanish.
-Provide a lot of necessary items
-Raise awareness to relevant issues in the community such as sustainable development, waste, AIDS, malaria and learn about the local medicine.
As well as community work we will also be doing environmental work on the beaches of Parrita
For example:
-Working on the beach to protect sea turtles and their eggs
-Cleaning up the beach
-Learning about the importance of different turtle species in terms of ecotourism and biodiversity
As part of our volunteer work each individual student has to fundraise to contribute to the project itself.
This money will not go towards our travels but instead go towards the materials we use to build the school and health clinic and the necessary items we provide to the citizens of Parrita.
We are raising awareness to the sustainable development of this community. If you were to donate to this project you would be giving aid to the citizens of this community who don’t have the necessities that we take for granted, predominantly health care and education.
I'm involved in this project as a volunteer through my school. It has been emphasised to us that this trip is not a holiday. It is three weeks of hard work and labour as well as an opportunity for us to learn about sustainable development and the history of Costa Rica.
