Mandi was diagnosed February 2014 with terminal lung cancer, stage four with a variety of treatments.
Waikato
Xmas of 2013 Mandi developed a cough and spent sometime backwards and forwards to doctors, then in February 2014 after a CT scan she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer stage four with secondary lesions in spine and brain.
For someone who has never smoked made her feel that her world was falling apart, the same feeling was felt by her children and family.
An appointment was made with the oncology specialist and treatment was started by way of oral form. With lesions on the brain she had to hand in her drivers licence and this meant she lost her independence as a teacher and had to rely on her work colleagues to take her to and from school each day.
More CT and PET scans in 2014 revealed more lesions so radiation was undertaken then another PET scan in 2015 revealed other lesions one being on the spine but a full radiation dose could not be given as it could cause paralysis.further side issues have caused significant hospital stays. (Pericardium Effusions)
So the next step being a specialised chemotherapy drug which is now been undertaken in Auckland.
She desperately wants to return to her teaching profession which she loves and to be back with her work colleagues and children .Her Teaching career has spanned 23 years.
Funding will be used for a number of reasons being,Trips to Auckland for treatment over a number of months,Lack of salary to support her mortgage payments and bringing up two teenagers on her own.Trying to supplement treatment with natural therapy, doctors appointments, and been in and out of hospital with complications associated with the cancer, her sick leave has been depleted.
We are asking you to give a little to help Mandi with the ongoing costs associated with the treatment for her illness.
I'm involved in this as her father. With her supporting two teenagers and with this cancer , she deserves better.
