Wellington
Vicky is an amazing caring person who has always been there for her friends and family, she now needs us more than ever.
Living in Wellington with her partner Matt, Vicky is a 22 year old Criminology student at Victoria University.
Facing upcoming exams, Victoria was feeling fatigued and unwell for a few weeks. After several GP visits, with her GP insisting her illness was viral, she was not feeling any improvement, so she took advice from her Mum and went to the hospital.
After being admitted to hospital on the 30th May, Victoria was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
This has come as a complete shock to Victoria, her partner and everyone that knows her. She has been in hospital since being admitted and will be there for at least another 5 weeks,as intense Chemotherapy has begun just one week after her diagnosis. She now faces a long hard road to recovery.
We aim to raise funds to help her with the costs of treatment, and living costs as Victoria and Matt are now down to a single income for the foreseeable future. All of Victoria's family live out of town, mainly in the South Island. These funds will help with travel and accommodation costs so Victoria has her Mum and Dad by her side during her treatment and recovery.
Victoria is my younger sister, she has the biggest heart and would put anyone before her. She has been so strong through this, with a positive outlook and trying her hardest to keep her family smiling.
Progress 9 November 2015
Vicky's stem cell transplant went very well, with Kat producing 2.5x more stem cells than the doctors were hoping for.
Vicky had a very rough few weeks following the transplant, as her body got used to the foreign stem cells. She is now passed that stage and has been discharged from hospital. We are hoping for final results of how well the new stem cells have grafted in December.
Vicky is slowly progressing, and has managed to talk her boss into letting her come back to work for a few days each week.
