Help Kallio on what we hope is his road to recovery

$13,670 donated
Given by 54 generous donors in around 4 months

Kallio has been battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia for 1.5 years. This fund will support Kallio with costs that accompany an illness like his.

Wellington

In October 2013 Kallio was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He was 23 at the time.

Six months and five courses of Chemotherapy later, Kallio was in remission.

But in December 2014 the Leukaemia returned and a bone Marrow transplant was recommended sooner rather than later.

Kallio has now had the transplant and is currently in Wellington hospital facing the delicate weeks ahead of post-transplant recovery.

This fund has been set up to assist with Kallio's medical bills and the extra costs that accompany an illness of this degree. The money raised will help Kallio transition back into life without the added trouble of financial stress.

When Kallio is discharged from hospital, he must remain in the constant care of another person for some time. Thankfully, his sister Losa has agreed to come out from Australia to care for him. These funds will support them in this time.

Prior to his relapse Kallio was excited to be enrolling in University to study chemistry. This is a dream that had to be put on hold. We hope these funds will support Kallio a little when that time comes to realise that dream-by minimising the possibility of him overextending himself and needing to juggle too much paid work as well as study.

Thank you, from Kallio and his family, for your kind donations.

I am Kallio's sister. He is the youngest of 5 children. Its been devastating to see him battling his disease and setting up this fund only touches the sides of how I wish I could help him.

Finally home  12 July 2015

This updates comes to you just two weeks before Kallio's givealittle page concludes. He and all his family are overwhelmed by the genorisity of all the the donors. Every little bit counts and we thank you so very very much.

Kallio received a stemcell transplant donated by his sister. The latest biopsy result came back clear of any abnormal cell activity, confirming the transplant to have been successful. We are relieved and very happy.

Kallio is now home, gaining strength and excited to be into the next phase of life after his 2 year battle with leukaemia.

Again thank you for the kindness and thoughts.
