Sharon and Barry are two of the most generous people we know. And now they need help to raise $22K+ for Barry's emergency medical treatment.
Auckland
Sharon and Barry are the kindest most generous people you’ll meet. But now they need our help. They’ve just found out Barry needs an urgent angiogram for his heart and they have no money, no insurance and aren’t eligible for treatment under the public health system.
Although Barry and Sharon have faced many challenges in their own lives, they’re always the first to drop whatever they’re doing to help others in need. They’re the most generous people you’ll meet, often giving beyond their means.
Maybe the 20+ years they were forced to spend apart created empathy for others. Or maybe it’s because they’re just so happy they’re finally together after Barry sold everything he owned to move to NZ to be with Sharon.
Whatever it is, we (Sharon’s colleagues), were distraught to hear that Barry urgently needs an angiogram, and potentially heart surgery, and they don’t have the money or insurance to pay for it. Because Barry is yet to receive his permanent resident status, he’s not eligible for the public health system. The angiogram and stent is an astounding 22k, which could climb to 50k if he needs more done!
We’re giving what we can and are praying for Sharon and Barry, but we can’t raise this amount of money alone. If you feel like you would like to help Sharon and Barry, they would be so grateful, as would we. They would never ask people personally, which is why we’ve set up this page.
Thank you for your support.
I work with Sharon, so a bunch of her colleagues and myself got together and had a think about how we could practically help. An initial round up gift was only a drop in the bucket after we heard about the initial cost Sharon and Barry are expected to pay for surgery.
Amazing News! 3 August 2016
An update from Sharon:
If you don't believe in miracles - let me change your mind. So today - armed with the results from the two doctors’ appointments we headed off to have Barry's heart procedure done. The results showed a definitive blockage in the right artery from the heart to the brain. After arriving at 6am and booking in, Barry finally went through to start the angiogram and have at least one stent fitted.
Not even half an hour later he was back. The specialist was both astounded and perplexed to find a perfectly healthy heart. He could not explain the results he had in his hand showing the blockage and the actual pictures as he did the angiogram. All I can say to this is THANK YOU, thank you to each and every one of you who have been praying for Barry and sending him good wishes. The other amazing thing is the money that has been raised in the Givealittle page is the exact amount that is required to cover today's expenses. Not a dollar more. Coincidence? I think not.
Also to those amazing friends from work who loaned us a substantial amount of money to get this done without even thinking about it twice, bless you and thank you for your love. To those who have given via Givealittle, to each and every one of you (and I don't know everyone) we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything. We have been so humbled by all that that has been done for us.
I know what I saw today and what happened, and this could not have been possible without prayer and a miracle or two. Bless each and every one of you. Now for one more prayer that Barry's PR goes through no problem. THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN. Much love always Sharon and Barry xxxxxx
