Steven Blake was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2014. The next line of treatment is not funded and he is not giving up!
Auckland
Friends and family of Steven and Amanda Blake know that Steve was devastatingly diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in November 2014.
Steve has a genetic mutation which put him at higher risk of this type of cancer and he has been undergoing the most suitable treatment available (Dabrafenib/Trametinib). The results from the 3-monthly scans have not shown the positive changes that everyone was so hoping for. His prognosis on this treatment alone is poor.
Now the option that Steve and Amanda face is to fully-fund an immunotherapy drug (Pemrolizumab) at a cost of $68,000 for the initial treatment plan. For more information see here: http://www.3news.co.nz/tvshows/3d/immunotherapy-drug-a-game-changer-for-melanoma-patients-2015062815#axzz3eLby0jTq
They are not giving up! All going well, Steve will start this treatment in the next few weeks.
Steve has not been able to work and they have recently sold their home in Auckland to help them stay afloat.
Many people have already given so generously - Steve and Amanda are so thankful for this.
Any other donations and messages of support will be gratefully received. Fundraising suggestions also welcome!
Memories live on 4 August 2015
Steve remained strong in mind until the very end.
He passed away on Sunday 19th July 2015 surrounded by his wife and family.
On behalf of Amanda, and both Steve and Amanda's families, thank you to everyone who has given in any way you have been able to.
