The words that I have been searching for came to me today. This week has been one of shock, disbelief, and overwhelming sadness when I heard that Deana Rose Totoro, one of my care family, at age 10 months passed away. I have had the honor of working and supporting this family over the past 6 months and have been truly blessed with the gift of spending time with this special little girl. The thought of having to say goodbye to your child is unbearable, and to only send support through words so hard. Traveling to Nelson this weekend to farewell our Deana has been a mixed bag of emotion and enlightenment for me. To be welcomed into the Totoro and Hippolite families and witness this love, support, resilience, and deep cultural vein has been the most spiritual experience of my life. To reflect today on Deana’s Tangi has given me some of the strength and guidance we will need to farewell this little girl and support her big brother Jethro in the days, weeks, and months to come. To Lisa and Joe, who will never forget the tragedy of this day, please know We thought of Deana with love today, We thought about her yesterday and days before that too. We will often speak her name and share our memories of her with you. These memories will be our special keepsake with which we will never part. God has Deana in his keeping, and we will share her together in our hearts.
