Maple had a tough life, a bright new start and now her future is looking grim, unless we can get her a prosthetic leg. A leg 4 life.
Waikato
Maple was found skinny, and scavenging roadside, three legged and her coat in poor condition. After some TLC at a pound, and with support of the ACOs who saved her - Jumping Jazzi and her crew of angels, set off on a mission to give her a new life... She got a road trip, a fab new start with a fabulous foster and support from a special rescue organisation. She has smiled from the day we met her, and has the biggest, sweetest soul imaginable - adoring, attentive and personality plus to anyone she meets. Sadly a vet check following her new start found that her missing leg is not the result of a professional amputation, nor a birth defect...so somebody is responsible for her disability, and she likely received it in a cruel and heartless way. Her remaining front leg is beginning to fuse in the shoulder and down her leg. Without a prosthesis to reduce the strain on her shoulder, vet advice is she will end up with no mobility in her front leg, and in the absence of a prosthesis, her only option will be euthanizing once her quality of life and mobility has gone. But - if we can raise dollars for a prosthesis to ease the pressure on her shoulder, her prognosis looks a whole lot brighter! This girl has stolen so many hearts in her short life, and had such a tough time - weathering her storm with a big staffy smile. Super trusting and so loving despite an unenviable start - she is the ultimate testimony to resilience and trust. We want to give her the best possible chance, and get her the prosthesis she needs - which will quite literally, save her life.
(Firming up costs and will update as soon as possible - any and all funds raised will be used solely for Maple and her future).
Jumping Jazzi (a tenacious amstaff cross) went missing last year from a boarding kennel, and was eventually found after 20 weeks - living alone in an old quarry. Her facebook page was created to help find her, but in the 12 months since she has been home, her page and its followers, have pursued special missions to help give back a little to some canine souls and their causes... With a team of Jumping Jazzi Angels emerging, total strangers uniting to touch the lives of a few who need a little bit of magic. Maple is one of these very special souls - and it seems her journey is just beginning.
Update on the gorgeous Maple 21 March 2016
Well - wow, what an update. Thanks to the generosity of givealittle, Maple has had several vet consults, including a VSG (specialist vet consult) and xrays. This determined that Maple lost her leg within the very early days of her life beginning - and this brutal loss of leg has resulted in significant deformity in her supporting front leg - due to increased strain on a growing limb. The great news is that the specialist advised that surgery was not recommended at this time - and supported our pursuit of a custom made front wheel cart for Maple from the US, and suggested ongoing physiotherapy. Maple's cart was made to measure and built and received within a couple of weeks. A team of very special people made this happen - and leapt through all sorts of hoops to make sure that the measurements were correct, and really, quite simply - physically made the cart happen. Big thankyou to North Auckland puppy rescue for that! Her early introduction to the two wheeled cart was met with some disdain from an independent wee soul that she is... but with time and energy from her fantastic foster, Maple is beginning to see the cart as friend, not foe. So - to cut a very long story short, this page has given Maple more than words can describe. We are quite confident that she will have quality of life, and coupled with her tenacity - she will give life everything her 3 legs can. Ongoing physiotherapy treatment is indicated to help her. And it must be said, the electromagnetic treatment received from PETme (enabled by an incredibly special volunteer that played taxi and attendant for Maple) made a big difference to this girl over 5 sessions. Maple will be looking for a super special forever home, but this will be a very well managed process. She is such a special girl - she deserves a very special home. If you think you may cut the mustard, expressions of interest to Staffy Rescue NZ, or pm facebook page "Jumping Jazzi-her journey home".
Thank you so much to everyone for making Maple's magic happen!
