Our Movember 2015 group seek to raise funds to allow ill TB patients to eat while undergoing treatment and recovery.

A group of Kiwis, Aussies and Canadians in Papua New Guinea are undertaking Movember 2015 to fight against TB in the Gulf Province. Where a dedicated team at Kikori hospital, led by a dutch doctor, and the local community are fighting one of the highest incidence rates of TB in the world!
The remote communities walk many days to receive diagnosis. Then spend 2+ months in a small hospital and community, away from home to maintain observed treatment at the hospital. The risk of patients stopping treatment halfway through is a perfect recipe to MDR TB (multi drug resistant TB).
I visited Kikori Hospital for work this year and was shocked by the magnitude of the Gulf TB problem and impressed with the passion and dedication of the small community who have come together to fight this disease.
The trick with effective TB treatment is to ensure patients take their medication everyday for six months.
Easy to do in most countries, incredibly challenging in remote villages.
Sick and tired from long travel, patients arrive to be told they need to remain in hospital. The arrive with no money and limited supplies. They rely on the goodness of the hospital workers and community to feed them while they recover.
Why does this interest us? If the patients have no food, they return to the village and consequently infect their community. It is spiralling, and the problem has been reported to be the worst TB statistics in the world.
By helping the patients remain in treatment, we are helping fight TB.
Lets support this small remote community with their fight!
