Anyone who has ever purchased a lemon of a car, or needed the generosity of others while on their OE, will relate to this cause!!
Auckland
We met Jimmy and Sophie last week when they arrived at our automotive workshop in their converted van that wasn't driving right. They had purchased the van only a few weeks earlier not long after arriving in NZ to start their 10-month OE around the country.
Unfortunately, unknown to them at the time, they purchased a lemon!! Not only have they paid far too much for the van but it now needs EXTENSIVE mechanical and panelbeating repairs to make it safe and legal to drive.
We can't speak for you but our hearts went out to their plight! Newly arrived in a foreign country, limited funds, dream OE just begun, limited understanding of the language and miles from home...and now they have to sink hundreds of their travel fund into this lemon!
The van is due a WOF next month and will not pass this inspection without the repairs being carried out. The rust damage had been recently painted over to hide the extent of it and the cross-member under the vehicle was about to drop out of the vehicle to name a few of the issues.
We have since completed the mechanical repairs, at reduced labour and parts at cost. We have recommended a local panelbeater they can trust and sourced some local accommodation while their van (aka their home) is off the road.
We are now asking for your help to kindly donate towards the cost of the panelbeating and the balance of the mechanical repairs.
Please help us take some of the sour out of this lemon!!
We have decided to get involved with this cause as we remember our own overseas experiences and the generosity of strangers and locals. Time to return the good karma! We don't want to see Sophie and Jimmy spend all their travel money on repairing this lemon - we'd rather they got out there and enjoyed what our beautiful country has to offer!!
Any funds kindly donated for this cause will be used to cover the costs of the panel-beating being carried out by Tucker Panelbeaters in Warkworth or the mechanical repairs being carried out by STR Automotive. Any surplus we hope they put towards their travels so they can make the most of this experience!
