Please help the Rentoul family get their house livable for Stu
Nationwide
Two weeks ago Stuart (49 yrs) was diagnosed with advanced inoperable pancreatic cancer. This has spread to his liver, lungs, kidney and ureter. This is an incredibly fast developing cancer, he is deteriorating daily. This has been and still is a complete shock to the family.
We are asking for donations for Toni (wife/mother) and the family for simple living costs as Stu was the only income earner and Toni is now his full time carer.
Stuart and Toni bought a livestyle property in Welcome Bay as their retirement project two years ago. At the beginning of the year the first building was sited and the project has slowly been progressing. We have managed to get water tanks and some plumbing complete. Unfortunately, to date the house is still unlivable without basic facilities (power, running water etc). Stuart is currently in hospice yet his wish is to come home. Unfortunately this is not possible in the state the house is in and the money is not there to get the house livable. We are asking for donations for assistance in whichever way you are able.
If you are able to offer your time or services, please leave a comment in the q&a section of this page and we will be in touch :) Thank You!!
Progress so far... 10 February 2015
Sadly, on December 22, Stuart lost his battle with cancer and passed away. He is greatly missed. His last wish is still our focus, that is to get the property that him and Toni started livable so Toni can live there with basic facilities.
Through the incredible generosity of people who have given their time and money we have been able to take great steps towards making the house livable for Toni.
Due to the amazing work of volunteers and working bees, a kitchen space has been created by removing two internal walls to make enough room for a lovely kitchen area. The building piles have been leveled and tied down to ensue a level foundation. A new floor has been built between the two buildings to connect them. Ranch sliders have been installed in two of the large holes in the outer walls and a deck has been landed and tied down to decking piles.
The family are so grateful for everything that has been given and the people who have willingly donated to this project.
This week the roof and walls to connect the two buildings is scheduled to happen which will completely connect the two buildings, making them one house and weather proof in that area.
To date there still is no running water on the property. The kitchen and bathroom are also not installed and the walls are not yet weatherproof.
If anyone knows of any builders, plumbers or landscapers in the area or surrounding areas that you think would be able to assist the family in their area of expertise, please let the family know or refer them to this page to have a look and get in touch.
Thank you to all the people who have helped the family thus far. Some great progress has been made, although there is still a lot to be done.
Attached is a quick video showing the state of the house to date.
