Inspired by truly amazing conservationists, I want to to raise awareness for saving Rhinos, by walking 5 km as a Tusk n Horn mascot.
Waikato
This Sunday the awesome TUSK and HORN Wildlife Trust fund raising team, will be sending their fit and well trained athletes out to run marathons in Rhino and Elephant suits. And I will be joining them! ? However with only few days to train and a fairly impressive diet of pure chocolate cake, over the last week, I’ll be joining the marathon team as a 5km walker (or perhaps waddler is more appropriate). Donning a rhino headpiece to raise awareness for rhino conservation and their plight against poaching. #saving the survivors.
The Tusk and Horn Wildlife Trust is based in Raglan and was founded by Zoo Keeper Sarah Jones in 2013. The trust exists purely to increase knowledge and promote opportunities for the NZ population to learn about rhinoceros and elephant species and the incredible people protecting and rescuing the victims in the trail of the poaching crisis. Including these charities:
• Project SAVING THE SURVIVORS - in South Africa care and look after rhinos in need. Pioneers of veterinary treatments for victims of poaching, snaring and traumatic incidents.
• The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - in Kenya, are pioneers in the rescue & hand-rearing of orphaned infant elephants and rhinos. They also operate Anti-Poaching, Mobile Vet & Aerial Surveillance teams.

Working with such amazing rhino conservationist has spurred me on to do this crazy walk. We all know how magnificent these animals are and its time to help in what ever ways we can!
We did it!! - Now for some backwards rhino fundraising! 6 October 2015
Success! The rhino walk was really fun with the motivated Tusk and Horn Wildlife Trust team. At the event I met many lovely people of all ages, who now know (possibly more than they ever wanted to) about rhino conservation.
The only major glitch was the fundraising website only opened after the walk was done! So now for some high spirited, backwards, fund raising! If you feel inclined to donate to an amazing elephant and rhino saving cause, go ahead and follow that urge! I guarantee it'll make you feel good! The site will be open for donations for another week.
Big thank you to all the fantastic people who have kindly donated! I can already see it turning into lovely new medical supplies and life-saving treatments for rhinos, what a buzz!
A bounding thank you to Tom, Sarah and Danielle for being a stellar support team! Cheering me on as I charged across the finish line and for not laughing too hard in the 10 meters that followed. Turns out rhino horns and tents are a little tricky to navigate. I recommend to anyone doing their victory march in a rhino head, be sure to duck as you enter the tent entrance. :)
The team did great. You can't help but look with awe at anyone who can run a half marathon in a giant rhino or elephant suit! I was more likely to inspire bemusement, but every fundraising step was worth it!. So joint us in stamping out poaching! Click the give a little link and make a donation :)
