Please help our mates in their recovery from kidney transplant surgery!
Otago
We’re a group of people wanting to support our friends on their journey to recovery. It’s a story about two best mates, two bad kidneys, and a flawed system that fails to support live donors effectively. To cut a long story short Glen Wedgwood was born with bad kidneys. He was misdiagnosed as a toddler and after being hit by a car at 10yrs old the truth was revealed. However the irreparable damage led to kidney failure in his 20s. It was at this stage his best mate Dion Stoufis offered up one of his own, but when a deceased donor became available in 2007 it was decided this was the better route to take. Unfortunately for Glen, his wife Kylie, and their three young children, the new kidney failed two months ago. Since then Glen has taken a ‘helicopter ride’ to Dunedin Hospital for intensive dialysis and draining of fluid from his lungs. He is currently on dialysis for up to 12hrs per day and waiting on the transplant surgery. Both men will be out of work and WINZ thinks $78 per week for Dion should see him right. We think this is worth a lot more than that. Please help us help our friends Glen and Dion on their journey back to health and happiness.
