Help Liberate the Text of the TPPA

We are a group of people who believe in democracy and believe people can change the world. At the start of August we issued the government a demand - release the full text of the TPPA by August 31st or we’ll come and get it ourselves. They didn’t, and now we’re coming to get it.

The TPPA is the largest trade agreement involving New Zealand, ever, and it’s being negotiated entirely in secret. This isn’t transparent, or compatible with any sort of democracy. That’s why we’re calling for the release of the TPPA text, and letting the government know that if they won’t do democracy, we will.

We made sure the government knew about our demand. The first public airing of the demand was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade office in Auckland, where we showed up with a giant magnifying glass and asked to do a search there. They declined. The next week we went to Tim Groser’s office and washed his windows, to try and improve the transparency. This still didn’t work, so we went back to the MFAT office and asked the staff there to become whistleblowers. We’re still waiting on the results of that one.

Now it’s time for the real thing. On September 15th, a large group of activists will be converging on the central MFAT office in Wellington and conducting a citizen’s search and seizure of the full text of the TPPA. Our goal is to find the TPPA, and strike a win for democracy not just in New Zealand but for the people of every country involved. If we can do this, it would make history.

But we can’t do it by ourselves.

Activists are coming from around the country and we want to help them as much as possible.

Each person needs Transport (0-$65), Lodging ( $30) and Food for between 2-3 days which comes to about $80 per person for the 2 day stay and 2 days travel.

Raise $500: Partially subsidize a bus for 25 of our team to Wellington.

Raise $1500: Fully cover transport for 35 people around NZ to Wellington and provide food and accommodation in Wellington for activists who could not afford to come otherwise

Raise $2500 we can do all above plus book out Tapu Te Ranga Marae and provide accommodation for everyone the night before the main event

Raise $4000 we can do all this but for over 50 people and run promotion and buy media in Wellington to promote the Search.

Raise $6000+ we can make this a totally inclusive campaign providing everything for 75 people.
