A one-time opportunity to attend a national course as the guest student composer is on offer to me from Shakespeare's Globe Centre NZ!
Canterbury
Attendance will allow me to extend and develop my skills in music composition at an 8 day full-immersion programme in Dunedin during September. Working with 25 Shakespeare enthusiasts, directors and a costume designer to compose a score for the production will be a challenge I would love to be able to rise to.
If I am able to attend and am deemed competent with my compositions it's possible I may join and compose for the troup which will represent New Zealand at The Globe, London, and perform at Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford upon Avon, in 2017. The opportunity to represent my country on the international stage would be a dream come true.
I have an after-school and weekend job, and my Mum is frantically organising fundraisers to enable me to attend. I began to play guitar and compose music only a few years ago to help manage chronic pain and my invitation to be guest student composer came after I was a finalist in my first-ever music compositon competition just 2 weeks ago. We are a sole-parent family and are unable to come up with a large amount of money at short notice.
Funds raised will be used to help pay for my course costs and travel to and from the venue.
