Making Memories for Moira
Auckland
We have set up this cause page for our mum Moira (Nanny Moises). The best mother and grandmother in the world.
We’d like to tell you a little bit about mum, to give you some insight into the person she is.
Mum was playing netball up until she was 60, right alongside my sister and I. She was always on the go. Growing up I can’t remember mum really being sick, she’d get the odd cold or stomach bug, not that you would have known because she would just keep on doing what she did normally without complaint. Mum went back to work when my sister was 6 weeks old (31 years ago). Her mother our grandmother took over looking after us during the day until mum got back from work.
Mum worked at least 50-60 hours a week as a supervisor for a major magazine distributor. She would then come home from work and look after us, cook us all dinner, bath us, wash our clothes, make sure the house was tidy and get us organised for the next day. As we grew up she tried her best to provide us with all the necessities and some luxuries in life, where she could, everything we ever asked her for she worked hard to try provide us with.
Mum was fiercely protective over us whether it be getting hurt in the playground as kids or doing something stupid as teenagers, she would always tend to our wounds. Or later on in life when friendships or love went wrong, she was there to help pick up the pieces.
Mum worked right up until about 4 years ago when she decided she was going to finish work to look after some of her grandchildren, the same path her mother had taken years ago. She couldn’t have been happier, her grandchildren all 9 of them are what she lives for, I don’t think she thought she could love anything anymore than her own kids until her grandkids came along. What she did for us as kids she has done for all of them and much more.
Unfortunately mum’s world came crashing down around her when in August 2014 she developed excruciating pain in her hip area. After numerous doctor and hospital visits over the next two months October bought about the devastating news that mum was terminal, diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer which had spread to her bones. Her cancer is inoperable and incurable and is being treated with palliative care.
Mum has ALWAYS given to others, and ALWAYS thought about others before herself and for that reason we have set up this page. We want Our mum to make the most of the time she has surrounded by the people she loves doing some really great things. We want her to see sights she hasn’t seen, to travel to Australia to see 4 of her 9 grandchildren (the latest addition being 1 week old) and along the way we hope to create some really great memories for her grandchildren to remember her by.
We will be eternally grateful for your support to help our mum create these experiences and memories for herself, her children and her grandchildren.
I am one of Moira's daughters.
Mum Visiting the new addition 4 February 2015
As mum is starting treatment the second week of Feb she thought it was of the utmost importance to get over to Aussie to see the latest addition Kai as well as her 3 other beautiful grandsons Mitchell, Luke and Ben.
While she has been there she was able to celebrate Luke's 05th birthday as well as see him start school. She has been spending lots of time with her Son Reuben and his beautiful wife Brooke along with the four boys.
She is also visiting her two sisters who live in Australia so she is grateful to be able to spend time with them as well.
Thank you so far to everyone who has donated so far, it is greatly appreciated. I hope to be able to update you all with more highlights from mum's future adventures.
