Taine is only 5 years old and has been diagnosed with ALL - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Auckland
On Monday, 8 December our gorgeous 5 year old nephew Taine was diagnosed with ALL – Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He went into hospital on Friday for an unrelated operation which didn’t require a blood test. It was a pure fluke that a nurse took bloods and they found he had a low blood count which led to his being diagnosed with ALL.
Taine is currently undergoing his first lot of treatment, which is just the first of many to come over the next 3 and half years.
We would like to do everything possible that we can for Terry, Theresa, Taine and Carter during this extremely tough time and even tougher times to come.
We thank you all for your support through these extremely difficult times.
I am involved because Taine is my nephew.
Taine Update as at 12 January 2015 14 January 2015
Taine was meant to be starting his next stage of treatment on Monday but has had a wee hiccup. He had an operation on Thursday to get a port put in under his skin to administer all his meds moving forward. Unfortunately he ended up spending the weekend in hospital as he was in lots of pain, fever and high heart rate which lead to the cause being an infection in his port so he is having to have another operation on Monday morning to remove the port. He is on 4 different types of antibiotics to kill the bug in his system. His treatment should hopefully commence again on Thursday starting off with another operation and chemo.
He is in remission which doesn't mean he is cured but means the first month has done what it was hoped for. Taine will have 6 months of weekly treatments and visits to hospital and then 3 years of monthly maintenance visits ahead for him. Most of treatment is done as an outpatient. The only time he will end up in hospital is like now when he gets a bug and cant fight it himself.
