Southland
A multiuse trail that links between two communities - Te Anau and Manapouri. Users will be able to walk, hike and bike on 15.4km of trail through a beautiful part of Fiordland.
This stage of the trail will start at the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre in Te Anau and travel to Rainbow Reach along the east side (true left) of the Waiau River. This is stage one of a proposed trail all the way to Manapouri.
To plan, fund, develop, establish and promote a high quality interconnected network of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and any similar recreational leisure activities covering the area of Te Anau, Manapouri & Environs in Fiordland (including Mavora Lakes).
Updated $$ Goal 23 April 2016
We are officially underway, with Leg 1 & 2 (of stage 1) being worked on as I type. These legs will take you from Te Anau, via the control gates to Queens Reach, and we envisage that the opening will be held in June 2016. We hope to raise enough funds to continue later this year on Leg 3 & 4 (from Queens Reach to Balloon Loop). We are revising the Goal $$ from $150k to $50k, to reflect the fundraising we have done to date, and the work undertaken.
The trail to date looks amazing! And we really want to get further!
