A once in a lifetime opportunity for students to accompany veterans to South East Asia,Malaysia and Vietnam "In the footsteps of Warriors".
Northland
The Tikipunga High School Service Academy will follow the footsteps of our warriors by touring South East Asia, Malaysia and Vietnam in November 2017. The intention is for 20 students to visit sites of New Zealand military significance and pay respects to those who did not return. They will be accompanied by veterans who served in those regions. The trip will encompass Singapore, Terendak, Penang, Nui Dat and Vung Tau. This is a fantastic life changing opportunity for students and veterans. Our students will gain a clearer understanding of a part of New Zealand Aotearoa's military history and service. Our veterans will return to their past with students; some of whom were a similar age those many years ago when they set off on their unknown journey.
Tikipunga High School is a decile 2 co-educational school for students in Years 7 to 15. The school is located in the outer suburbs of Whangarei. It caters for a local and mostly Māori community and for some students from more rural areas. School values are underpinned by manaakitanga and whānaungatanga.
The school has a service academy and also functions as a lead school for several trades academies.
Tikipunga High School is a decile 2 school; families will be asked to contribute to costs of the trip, students are working on community projects and we will be running major fundraisers. The cost is $4,100 per student and the whanau are expected to contribute at least $1,300 towards the trip. The veterans and accompanying teachers will be paying for their fares etc.
Wow; thank you so much. The students are gearing up for a Major Fundraiser - Formal dinner. This will be happening during their school holidays. so they will be working hard. Nga mihi nui
