Support for friends in Vanuatu!
Auckland
We recently had the pleasure of meeting Vanuatu artists Sandy Sur and Prim Rose Wari at the SCANZ artist residency in New Plymouth in February. They came to present the film made with Further Arts, of their beautiful Vanuatu Women's Water Music (see below).
We have not heard from Sandy or Prim Rose since the devastation of Cyclone Pam. While we wait, many of those who met Sandy and Prim Rose wish to send some support to them, their families and friends in need. We welcome others who might wish to also send their support, as updates come in.
Sandy's family has a village set up in Port Vila - and we are yet to hear how much damage there was for them also. This is perhaps the part of Sandy's family that needs the most support.
[This has been confirmed -- that all of their houses were destroyed. Updated 23 March]
We are working with Further Arts, a Vanuatu arts organisation who works closely with Sandy's Leweton Cultural Group, to deliver this support to them.
We will update this page as we hear more.
