Wisdom's Journey battling hlh & severe brain damage

Wisdom was diagnosed with (hlh) Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis which is a rear & life threatening illness because of his illness he also ended up with severe extensive brain parenchymal damage.

Last year in September he was 3 months at the time.

Wisdom was born on the 25/05/2014 a natural healthy home birth baby boy. Wisdom was always happy and well contented baby who loved watching his brother's and sister play around him.

He did everything a newborn baby will do.

At 3 month's Wisdom caught rotovirus I had taken him to city medical on a Monday where he was prescribed pedialyte.

We then went home for the next 2 days nothing had changed it had got worse,

so I took him back to city medical which was a Thursday and told them that he had got worse and has started vomiting,

the doctor said to give him pamol and keep giving him pedialyte.

Saturday morning at about 8am I woke up to find it unusual that Wisdom was not moaning to get up and watch cartoons with his brothers & sister as that was the normal routine,

We got up to check on him to find him and his bed full of sweat right through out his dad pick him up Wisdom couldn't hold his head up he was also having trouble breathing.

I quickly dressed him and took him straight back to city medical he was put on oxygen & rushed to Hastings Hospital.

Once he got examined we were then taken around to children's ward after an hour been in there he had a seizure.

He was then rushed to intensive care where they did test after test later that evening Wisdom was put on life support.

I had then asked the doctors if we could be transferred to Starship Hospital they said yes cause they weren't sure what he had but we had to wait for Wisdom to become stable.

The next day the flight team from Starship came down to get us.

Once we got there we went straight to intensive care (picu).

They also did test after test one of the test that they done was to check his ferrtin levels everybody levels should be around 300-400 Wisdom's were at 10,000 so high they couldn't believe it.

Wisdom was then diagnosed with hlh he was put on 25 different medications.

He also got an mri done as well as x-rays

His x-rays showed swelling to his liver

His mri showed that the hlh had spread into his brain

We stayed in (picu) for a month before getting transferred to children's cancer ward.

Wisdom was put on chemo to try and get rid of the disease in his brain and to destroy his immune system as it is his immune system affecting his liver and kidneys.

After a month Wisdom went for another mri it wasn't good Wisdom's brain was starting to shrink it's been damaged badly that these nothing they can do.

In November we were then discharged from hospital as there was nothing more they could do for him they told us he had a life span which was said that he wouldn't make it to see his first Christmas.

Wisdom is still with us today and he is one miracle boy.

Because of his medical condition Wisdom may never do things like normal children like sit up, walk, talk or even eat. Wisdom needs 24/7 care

We have been trying to get Wisdom a bair hugger to keep him warm at night as his temperature drops rapidly.

We are also wanting a heart & oxygen monitor as those also drop rapidly, normal heart beat for children sits at 120 Wisdom's can drop to 45 very scary.

To also give Wisdom a happy & comfortable life.
