I have a rare cancer in my eyes called Intraocular Lymphoma which is slowly taking my sight, Please help me stay independent.
Auckland
I worked in the Mental Health field for 14years and had a back injury while I was supporting a client to move back into the community. This injury caused me to lose my job in 2013. I have been unable to work ever since.
Sadly during all of this I was diagnosed with a rare cancer in my eyes called Intraocular Lymphoma. there are around 250 - 300 cases worldwide so little is known about this condition. I was given a form of chemo via injections into each eye monthly which was showing signs of improvement however my body decided to reject the last two injections causing me to end up in Greenlane eye ward for 4 days while they figured out what treatment they could give me. The ultimately decided on second opinions which turned into 23 second opinions and no one could create a care treatment plan for me. My Specialist took my case to the top Optometrists in Hobart who also couldn't come up with a treatment plan. I was referred to the Hematology department of Middlemore Hospital under another specialist whose expertise is with Lymphoma. She told me that she did a paper on the possibility my condition may exist many years ago but I'm her first patient with this diagnosis (which they got by doing a biopsy in each eye). My sight is fading fast and I am no longer able to drive, so I have been staying independent with my mobility scooter getting to the shops for every day essentials and participating in local school events to support my daughter in year 11
My mobility scooter has decided to play up and not work as it should often breaking down forcing me to push it home and this is not a suitable option due to my back injury and failing eyesight.
My husband works very hard to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. I wish he didn't have to work so hard as he had open heart surgery 2 years ago and has two metal valves in his heart.
I know that there are others out there who deserve more than me so all I ask is for enough money to get a durable brand new Mobility Scooter to help me stay independent.
Did I mention I am 44years old and have a lovely wee grandson who I don't get to see much now due to not being independent. Relying on others is not how I enjoy life I have always been independent and have had years driving and supporting others but now this world has gone and I only see the world as a big blur - like looking through a wet sponge or windscreen without wipers in heavy rain.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and give a little. May God bless you and your family many times over.
