I'm doing the Auckland Harbour Ocean Swim to raise money for the Mercy Hospice at College Hill in Auckland.
Wellington
Just 18 months from the 'Gold Card' birthday I have decided that my bucket list "Harbour Swim" from Devonport to the Viaduct is a sooner rather than later project :)
The Waitemata is the harbour that I learnt to love the water and the Tepid Baths (not far from the finish) is where I learnt to swim - so it all makes sense.
But most of all I would love to raise some dollars for the Mercy Hospice, College Hill by finding sponsors for my swim. The team there do such an amazing job. We will always remember the care they took of Cheryl and our family.
All monies raised will go directly to the Hospice - But I have asked the fundraising team there if some dollars could help top up that wonderful drinks trolley (for patients & visitors) this Christmas.
I would appreciate any donations at all.
We did it ! 15 December 2015
THANK YOU to all the generous sponsors of my Harbour Crossing Swim. So happy to raise $765 for the Mercy Hospice - was a TOP TOTAL ! Thanks a 1,000,000 everyone.
Weather conditions weren't too bad - maybe a little choppy out in the channel - but after last Wednesday's "Splash & Dash" in Wellington Harbour we were well ready for it !!
Such a BUZZ getting to those steps at the Viaduct.
Great to share the moment with Betty (who has been my #1 supporter for 63 years now ! )
Thanks to Marl & Lee who were there also to congratulate me !

the Viaduct).
I was real happy with my time 1hr 23 mins.
Once I got past the Number 7 'cut off ' buoy in plenty of time - I felt pretty good for the rest of the swim . Made a point of looking to my right & taking a look at the Harbour Bridge - might not get that view point again !!
Shout out to:
* My fellow KTB swimmers (Kathie & Catherine)
for their constant reassurance !
* Scott Rice & the Ocean Swim team for such an exceptionally well run, safe event
* Rebecca Williams @ Mercy Hospice for her encouragement :)
& finally for those who know my record in Spot Prizes .... the trend continues !!!!!! (just sayin)
