On our honeymoon we are climbing our first 14er, Mt Massive, to raise awareness and funds for the Eating Disorders Association of NZ (EDANZ)

Auckland

On our honeymoon in August 2015 we are climbing our first 14,000ft mountain (14er) to raise awareness and funds for the Eating Disorders Association of New Zealand (EDANZ).

We will climb Mt Massive in Colorado's Rocky Mountains National Park which is the third highest mountain on the mainland USA standing at 14,428ft tall, 2210 feet taller than our own Mount Cook!

Why it is important to us?

Eating disorders are becoming a huge issue for people in NZ and everyone knows someone who has been affected by the disease. EDANZ are the only support facility in New Zealand for sufferers and their families as they battle with this challenging illness. We thought that it was appropriate to complete our first serious climb at altitude together to symbolise that the seemingly insurmountable can be achieved with dedication and the help of loved ones. Eating disorders are best not to be faced alone.

EDANZ is a fully volunteer based organisation that does not receive any government funding so they rely on your help to continue to offer their services to people in need. Every cent that we raise will be donated directly to EDANZ.

When the family is supported and empowered, so is the sufferer.

This is an issue I feel so strongly about. Our Government and MOH need to step it up and support sufferers and families so the fall out is not so terrifying. To find out your loved one has an ED and to navigate finding any, let alone suitable treatment is an absolute minefield fraught with unimaginable stress and heartache. Our child is in recovery and EDANZ were part of this. Thankyou EDANZ.
