100 Wild Kaimanawa Horses. 100 Days. 100 Lives Saved.

$93,519 of $125,000 goal
Given by 975 generous donors in 4 weeks

A nationwide effort to save 100 wild Kaimanawa horses in 100 days, which are due to be culled during the late April Kaimanawa Horse Muster.

Nationwide

UPDATE: Applications have closed. 154 horses were saved. 125 horses still facing an uncertain fate. Any funds raised between 14-20th April will save excess, unassigned horses from the muster. Anything after 9pm 20th, will save excess horses from the next muster.

The 100 Kaimanawa Wild Horses – 100 Day Project is a bold, time-sensitive mission to rescue, gentle, and rehome excess Kaimanawa horses from the government muster.

The initiate is led by Kaimanawa Legacy Foundation (KLF) founding board member, Kelly Wilson, whose team is based in Taupō. Her property is fully equipped with the facilities, experience, and passion to give these horses a future—but we can’t do it without your help.

TIMESTAMP: The first $45,990 (before 9pm 14th April) was dedicated to supporting stockpiling costs (including feed, care and vet costs, as well as travel and accommodation costs for volunteer trainers), for horses waiting for a trainer rotation to open up.

Anything over and above this figure, is dedicating to saving excess horses that would otherwise not be given a second chance at a life in domestication.

Every $2500 saves a juvenile, or $5000 for a mature mare or stallion.

These unassigned horses will:

• Be owned by KLF

• Have all rehoming costs covered (ie purchase, gelding, transport)

• Be placed with a professional KLF Approved Trainer for initial handling

• Post taming, will be matched with owner or scholarship rider/trainer

Be part of something life-changing—for them, and for us all.
