60 wods in 2 days

$4,520 of $4,000 goal
Given by 89 generous donors in 7 weeks

A bunch of lads doing 60 wods in 2 days raising money for two worthy causes in Movember and Fertility NZ. Date tbc based on lockdowns.

Waikato

It's fair to say that things in the past year haven't been easy for anyone, but particularly for those struggling with mental health issues. Movember do a huge amount of work to facilitate those difficult conversations for the males in our community who are struggling with their mental health internally and can't figure their way out. It's a problem that isn't going away any time soon, but as a group we are determined to raise awareness and get people talking, because being able to open up can be the difference between fighting to see the next day or, in the worst case scenario, not.

However, this year has opened our eyes to a different side of people's struggles. And a member of the team (Sam) and his wife (Chloe) have been going through IVF. This process had taken its toll on both of them and they found themselves asking questions on why the world seemed so unfair. Chloe in particular has been through so much as part of this journey and in Sam's words - "I can't even begin to imagine what she has been through mentally and physically. I owe her a debt of gratitude for what she has done in an attempt to start a family for us." Accordingly half of what we raise will be donated to FertilityNZ helping couples in similar situations to them, who just want the opportunity to start a family. It's the very least Sam felt he could do given everything Chloe has been through and the rest of the team have nobly agreed to help and support him on this journey.

So, with all of this in mind the next month brings a big challenge. We will be completing 60 "wods" in 2 days. For those that don't know a wod is simply a workout, it will be crossfit based, using multiple movements, time domains and structures, but is likely to be approximately 15 minutes. For the mathematicians amongst us you'll know, but that means approximately 15 hours of working out across 2 days. 60 represents the number of males that commit suicide every hour worldwide and is a staggering and sad statistic. Let's make that change.

Having been affected by the loss of friends to mental health and my own journey trying to start a family I'm raising money for Movember and Fertility NZ

Use of funds

Donations will be evenly split between Movember Foundation and Fertility NZ. Helping raise awareness of mental health issues for the males in our community and also on supporting couples struggling with infertility.

Level 2  16 November 2021

Given that Waikato goes into level 2 from midnight tonight (Tuesday) we anticipate that we will be completing the challenge in the first weekend of December (4th and 5th) as this allows us enough time to get back in the gym and training hard. We have been training hard from home but nothing beats the challenge and competitiveness of going up against your mates. Just over 2 weeks to go. Thank you everyone for your donations so far, they certainly keep us accountable with our training. Hope to see some of you at crossfit 3216 on the weekend. More updates to follow.
