Meika's battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma
Mangawhai, Northland
Hi Everyone,
My daughter Meika was first diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma at 9 years old, December 2018.
She did 8 months of gruelling chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. She had a 90% chance of success and remission.
She had an amazing almost 2 years remission until at one of the regular scans, Meika's oncologist told us the bad news that unfortunately something has shown up on the scans and we need to investigate.
We got the news that it is back.
Meika had more surgery and a port put in for the chemo to be given through.
We are on the most aggressive chemo protocol and we are told we will be here for 1 year.
She is given a 50-60% chance of survival.
After a few weeks of testing and appointments we are also told that unfortunately to save Meika's life she has to have her left eye and it's surrounds removed completely.
The cancer is just too aggressive and with the mutation it's even more important to have it taken out and hopefully all of the microscopic cancer cells with it.
Any money raised will go towards costs associated with travel to and from hospital, parking costs and getting some cool stuff for Meika to keep her occupied during her hospital stays.
If we are lucky and Meika makes it through this, any left over money will be used for Meika to do a toy drive for other sick kids which is something she is very excited about.
My friend Matty and I are also doing a 72 Hole Golf Challenge to raise money for the Cancer Society of New Zealand a link to this page can be found here: https://longestday.org.nz/carl-gordon
Any donations to either of these pages would be greatly appreciated!!
Meika is my Daughter.
