Olivers Crusade

On the 6/06/2010 we found out Oliver (10) had type 1 diabetes. He has to take insulin every day to keep him alive, with out it he will die.

His sugar levels are very unstable and he has lots of hypoglycaemia which is low blood sugars.

It takes a lot to get Oliver's sugars up then it drops again to "LO" on his blood sugar testing machine .

The dexcom g4 would help him and my family in so many ways.

We can see his blood sugars every 5 mins in real time. When they get "LO" we will be able to counteract it and stop Oliver fitting.

The dexcomg4 has a alarm that goes off when the blood sugars go too low.

Oliver has no sense to his lows. So I get hardly any sleep as he could die in the night. He has had night time hypos and has fits with it. He has nearly died 4 times. A dexcom g4 would literally be a lifesaver.

He has been in hospital 7 times since January with complications with his diabetes and fitting.

Not only does Oliver have diabetes but on the 31/9/2011 we found out that Oliver had cancer (Ependymoma).

He had a tumor the size of a sausage in his central nervous system. He has to go undergo a 6 hour surgery to remove it and was in hospital a month. He will have to have yearly MRI to make sure the tumor has not come back. He was very close to not walking again.

Oliver has been through so much and having the CGM will not only give him life but will help give him quality of life.

The dexcom g4 is not funded. The dexcom g4 cost $2500. And $500 a month to buy the sensors to make it work I am a single mum to 4 children and I can not afford this amount of money.so any help at all would mean the world to us
