After 28 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease.
Reaching the ultimate goal of a polio-free world presents ongoing challenges, not the least of which is a hundreds of million dollar funding gap. Of course, Rotary alone can't fill this gap, but continued public and private support can help enormously.
As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk.
New Zealand Rotary's National Charity
1. Disaster Response
Every year Rotary New Zealand dispatches hundreds of the Emergency Response Kits to countries around the Pacific. Our aim is to work with local Rotary Clubs in each affected country to be the first to provide emergency response on site after a disaster hits. In 2015, 1000 Kits were distributed following Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu.
2. Community Development
a) Capacity Building - individual livelihoods, community support
b) Education - early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary
c) Health - maternal, disabled, disease prevention
d) Child Sponsorship - orphaned, physically/mentally impaired
