We need your help to get our project off the ground to improve the mental well being of New Zealand youth!
Nationwide
New Zealand has one of the highest youth suicide rates among OECD countries.
Stigma is one of the biggest barriers to youth accessing help regarding their mental health.
Secondary schools are a platform for developing and sustaining issues surrounding mental health. Therefore this is an ideal target setting for increasing mental health awareness and knowledge about available services for young people.
We would like to create a pilot programme of Mental Wellness Promotion Committees in 10 selected secondary schools in the Auckland region.
In this workshop we will develop and train 6-8 students in years 11, 12 and 13 in each school.
Training will included how to reduce stigma, promoting skills to keep mentally well, and providing resource information.
Training entails a two day workshop on the 27th-28th of September at ASB’s North Wharf ‘The Cube’ conference centre.
Following the workshop we will support students in schools through a website & supplying resources for them to use in their schools.
