We urgently need help with funds for an MRI to help save Marie
Auckland
Marie was found on the roadside 6 years ago, she was 3 weeks old, with cat flu and a burst eye.
We were driving home from a day out and we saw a tiny kitten playing with leaves on the kerb and we both thought she was far too young to be out on her own. We pulled over but she ran into a bush. We searched around our car for food to entice her out, all we could find was a pie crust. We spent 20 minutes trying to coax her out of the bush. When she finally came out she smelt disgusting, we realised her eye was blown-out and she had only half of her right eye left. There was no way we could leave her, so we wrapped her up in a blanket and took her to the vet.
The vet was very kind. He said she was 3-6 weeks old and mal-nourished, she was so riddled with fleas he could not use normal flea powder, and sprayed her instead. He gave her a shot of anti-biotics and he said if she survived the night then we were to bring her back the next day and he would do the surgery.
The following day we went back to the roadside where we found Marie and found another 3 kittens. We took them to the SPCA but they died that night. The SPCA found the mother cat and they took her in as she was so neglected.
Marie made a miraculous recovery. We faithfully fed her every few hours with liquid food for weeks. She went from a hissing fearful gravely ill kitten to a loving healthy one.
She is now extremely affectionate and can’t bear to be away from us. Because we let her sleep around our necks when she was a kitten she will only sleep between us both, that way she can place a paw on both of us.
She loves to go into stealth mode and play hide and seek; her having only one eye means that when she takes a sneaky peak she has to stick her whole head out and so always giving her position away. Her other favourite game is tag, she never fails to whack our ankles when she catches us.
Marie was healthy for her first three years with us, but slowly her eye socket has got worse, we have spent a lot of money on treatments and surgery trying to keep her well but the vet now feels she needs to have an MRI so that they can see what is causing her eye socket to fill with fluid and become tender and inflamed.
Marie is still tiny for a cat but she has a big heart and a fighting spirit, and it would be sad to lose her now. If you can spare a few dollars to help pay for her ‘cat-scan’ we would be so grateful. We are trying everything we can to pull the money needed to save Marie but we are running out of time
The money raised will go 100% towards the MRI cost ($3500)
