ACC won’t help, can you?

As a 13-year-old in the early 1980s, Roger was groomed and sexually abused by a paedophile ring with close ties to the Dilworth School. Throughout his life, he has struggled to come to terms with this trauma.

Roger did the right thing, and asked for help from ACC's Sensitive Claims Unit in 2004, only to find the Accredited Councillor then forged his name and falsified documents for his own personal gain. An ACC Psychologist then diagnosed Roger with “extreme PTSD”.

But ACC says because he was not earning an income at the time, he's not eligible for weekly compensation. Roger had a job and an income four days after he first sought help - but ACC says those four days mean he does not qualify.

Roger has since testified in court, leading to the conviction of one of his abusers (you can read his story here, TW sexual abuse:

Although the right thing to do, it's meant reliving his ordeals over and over again, and that's affected his ability to work. He's been struggling to make ends meet for two and half years, been evicted from his home, needs urgent dental work and a helping hand to get back on his feet.

As Roger's mate, I'd be so grateful for anything you can do to help pay the debts he's incurred, get his teeth fixed, get his confidence back and get him back to work.
