Alife is our beloved family dog, he's a wonderful little 3 year old Sydney Silky x Chihuahua dog. Alfie has the most amazing kind, laid back nature. Alfie spends most of his days at the Dental Clinic I work in sitting on patient last helping them relax and taking their minds off their upcoming dental treatment.

Tragedy hit our family on Thursday 11th December when Alfie was hit by a car outside our Whakatane property. Alfie's accident happened after a car crash outside our property the drivers dog was in the car and ran off. Alfie (who never ventures off the property) must have heard them all calling and went to see what was going on and got hit by a car. One of the guys looking for the dog alerted us to the fact our boy had been hit. We raced Alfie to the vets and after x rays its was found that he has suffered multiple breaks to his Pelvis, Hip, Femur as well as fractures to his spine. The only hope to save Alfie was to get him to top Surgeons at The Specialist Veterinary Centre Mt Wellington.

Alfie's amazing laid back nature and fight for life has amazed everyone, he fought each day and got stronger and stronger. After spending 5 days at the Whakatane vets, waiting for the specialist to see him we finally got an appointment.

On Wednesday 16th December we traveled Alfie to Auckland to see the specialists . Our prayers were answered and she confirmed that she could fix all of his breaks and gave him a 90% chance of near normal recover. With these odds we decided we had to give this amazing little dog the chance to live his life.

So on Thursday 17th December Alfie had his First operation, after 8 hours of surgery to repair a hernia and plate and screw his pelvis and femur back together, we got the call to say he had come through it and was doing great. His second operation was the following Monday 21st this was to remove the ball of his hip that had been shattered.

Alfie's operations have so far been a success and he has shocked and amazed all the vets with how amazing he has coped with all the procedures and his massive heart and will to live. However Alfie now faces a long recovery and due to him having to have blood transfusions and them finding a hernia from the accident, the costs are way higher than first expected.

It is hoped that Alfie will be able to come home to his mum for Christmas day to start his long journey back to normal life, but with a heart and fight as big as his we all believe he will make it. We just hope we can get some help from donations to cover some of his rather high surgery costs.

Use of funds

The funds will be used to cover the surgery and after care costs for Alfie, any surplus funds will be donated to the Specialist Veterinary Centre to help other animal like Alfie
