Raising funds for a beautiful man who is so lucky to still be here after a vicious unprovoked serious assault.

Christchurch, Canterbury

On the Tuesday 14th September at approximately 8pm Mattie was brutally attacked and beaten with a skateboard by an ex homeless man he had been helping to get on his feet.

Mattie had gone to see this man and bought dinner for them to have together as it was this man's birthday the following day

After they finished dinner Mattie got his belongings together as they were planning to go to the pier and that is the last thing Mattie remembers until he woke up in the hospital

What he is unable to remember is this..

The Assailant hit Mattie on the back of the head 5 times with his skateboard, 3 times on his face and once on his throat, knocking Mattie unconscious.

We do not know exactly how he got to the Avon river where he was found in the river as the unprovoked beating happened in a housing complex just off Brougham street

He was found approximately between 1am and 2am and he was so lucky to not have been face down in the Avon river or he certainly would have been dead.

His face is full of broken bones and fractures.

He had to have 2 emergency surgeries within the first 48 hours and still requires 2 more.

Mattie is suffering from a lot of trauma, anxiety and fear as the assailant is out on bail and knows where he lives.

Mattie came to Christchurch to help and care for family and to experience the Christchurch everyone hears about and loves, he shouldn't have experienced the ugly side of Christchurch that tries to remain hidden.

He is the most generous loving caring person and we are so lucky that he is still here with us.

But the next few months are going to be difficult which is why we are trying to raise funds to help him and his family be able to focus on healing physically mentally and emotionally.

It wont be an easy road but if we can take the financial burden away it will help immensely.

I personally would like to thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you are unable to donate I just ask you to please share this on your social media accounts and also to give Mattie and his family space and time to recuperate. Mattie will make an update when he is feeling better.

Thank you again xx

Thank you all for donating to support Mattie. Just to provide some clarification regarding a couple of points on the page, specifically that Mattie was transported to hospital from the scene and may not have been found in the Avon River (he was told this however cannot recall this) and it is yet to be determined if the attack was unprovoked or not.

In light of this, should you wish to receive a refund please get in touch with us by 5pm Monday 8th November 2021.

I don't care about his past. Giving should be unconditional or it's a crock. Get well soon 🙂.
