HAIR TODAY, GONE October 2020. Community head shave/chest or leg wax to raise funds for on-island cancer care.
Auckland
The Aotea #FightBack campaign is based on Aotea / Great Barrier, and aims to raise funds for on-island cancer care.
Central government currently covers the cost of primary cancer care, but we believe we can improve the lives of island cancer patients and their whanau by providing respite and holistic care here on the island.
In collaboration with the Great Barrier Island community Health Trust, we will fundraise to purchase community-owned equipment and resources for patients and carers. Simple things like a more comfortable chair or bed, a therapeutic massage, or a dinner out for family members who're caring for their loved ones, can make a real difference to both individuals and the community.
The Main Event, ‘Hair today, Gone October 2020’ will see brave volunteers of our community take to the stage for a public shearing to raise funds for this cause. Six beautiful local women will shave their heads, and the men will wax their chest or leg hair.
The event will be held on Saturday 24th October at 11am at the Claris Club Labour weekend market.
The lovely ladies who'll be shaving their locks are:
Sue Levett, Jude McGeady, Stess Guthrie, Vicky Kyan and Aroha Carde McGeady. Aria Whaanga has already done her ‘Lockdown’ headshave, getting the ball rolling, raising a good starting amount. Well done!
In the men’s corner willing to lose a bit of winter coverage is:
Lance Dixon, Brett O’Reilly, Luke Coles and Paddy O’Shea. Luke Coles will be unable to attend the main event, but has willingly participated in an ‘early bird’ manscaping brozillian (video footage on our Facebook page) which has also raised a fantastic amount. Awesome effort!
I am part of the team that is organising the event and my involvement is to set up a Give A Little page for the Campaign event.
Money raised will focus on palliative care, educational and respite resources for island residents. Funds are donated directly to the Great Barrier Island community Health Trust and distributed in a confidential manner on a case by case basis.
Event rescheduled 21 September 2020
Due to Lockdown earlier this year the ‘Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow’ fund raising event had to be postponed.
This fundraising page is reopening as the event has now been rescheduled for Labour Weekend, Saturday 24th October, same time at the Claris Sports Club.
Aria, one of our head shavers already went ahead with her ‘lockdown’ shave and has started the ball rolling raising a fabulous amount towards our cause.
By reopening this page, it allows people to donate to the cause before our event takes place.
