ALWU will advocate on the behalf of legal workers and aims to promote equity, justice, and a profession we can be proud of.

Nationwide

Aotearoa Legal Workers' Union (ALWU) was established on 14 February 2019. This day marked one year since a spotlight was put on the legal profession, showing pockets of exploitation of junior lawyers, sexual harassment, and toxic work culture.

ALWU will act on the mandate of its members to ensure that all legal workers are free from abuse, harassment and bullying, and that they are paid fairly for their work.

ALWU's initial priorities will be to:

1. Launch a campaign to ensure all legal workers are paid fairly and employers are complying with the Minimum Wage Act.

2. Survey legal workers to gain accurate information about pay and conditions across employers, and publish the results.

3. Connect members with appropriate employment support services where they have individual issues in their workplaces.

Please give generously to ALWU. We will use all resources to ensure action is finally taken to address problems in the legal profession. We want to create real change. Help us make that happen.

Use of funds

The money received from our GiveALittle page will assist our administration team to engage with our stakeholders and increase membership. Funds will assist in running events such as our Q and A session on what ALWU can provide its membership; delegates training; and strategy meetings by the Executive.
