Recognition for Nick Collings Selfless Dedication to Dance Music Culture and His love of Sharing it with Others!
Auckland
The runaway success of the 'Auckland Nightlife - Year 2000 +' Facebook group has brought incredible memories flooding back to so many of us - Without doubt this page would not exist without Nick Collings and his selfless dedication to sharing all aspects of Dance Music Culture with others. Nick is a hell of a nice guy who never has a bad word to say about anyone.
Nick has contributed everything humanly possible (and more) for well over 2 decades to the Dance Music scene in Auckland now - The vast majority of this time for next to no financial gain.
There is almost no aspect of Electronic Music that Nick has not been involved in from:
- Running a Record Shop ('Criminal Records')
- DJ'ing at 1000's of Events across multiple genres (Many of which he also Promoted)
- Hosting countless Radio shows
- Being the GM of Dance Music Station 'UP FM'
- Writing millions of words, both in print and online
Although Nick was compensated for many of these, he is Man who has largely avoided a 'safe and normal career trajectory' - He has made many sacrifices for his love of Dance Music.
Nick Collings role as NZ's Dance Music Chief Historian and Archiver is one that so many of us reap rewards from, but few properly thank him for. The man has:
- Scanned 1000's of flyers and photos for uploading
- Digitised 1000's of hours of Promo Mix CD's and Interviews to make available for downloads
- Relentlessly compiled and created content for the Facebook groups
- Been a tall, walking version of Shazam since long before it existed
- Initiated and Hosted his '40 First Mates' (and Matettes?) Dinner Catch Up Concept
- Provided many of us with the surname of that hot Girl or Guy that we met at 'Event-X'
Of course in these COVID-19 times donating will be difficult for many of us but even if you can skip buying a coffee tomorrow, along with the other 3,500+ members of 'Auckland Nightlife - Year 2000 +', we will quickly hit the target and we can bless Nick with some financial compensation in honour of his contribution.
Please note Nick Collings never asked for this or expects it...
Why $15,000? Well, the tempo of Nick's beloved Hard House is 150BPM so let's x that by 100!
I will kick this off with $100 - Now it is your turn.
Regards, Dane Faesen Kloet (Dance Music Fan and Participant of 25years)

Nick wants to use it towards a 10 part "History of New Zealand Dance" podcast with interviews with some of the key players, DJs, promoters, club owners, punters, door people in NZ and tell his version across multiple genres - A concept he has had for 2yrs
