Please support Lou, Ryan & Hugo for the safe arrival of baby King & the lifesaving open heart surgery that will take place at Starship 💗
Southland
Ryan & Louise would do anything for anyone. It meant the world to them to be having their second child, however just a few weeks ago Louise & Ryan received the news no parent wants to hear.
At their 20 week scan, they found out that their beautiful little girl has a congenital heart defect and will require urgent lifesaving open heart surgery upon her arrival into this world.
Baby King has Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). This means that the two main arteries leaving the heart are “switched” and therefore two seperate circuits are formed - one that circulates oxygen-poor blood from the body back to the body, and another that recirculates oxygen-rich blood from the lungs back to the lungs. This means that once baby is born oxygenated blood won’t flow around the body without this lifesaving operation.
Lou & Ryan will need to be in Auckland some weeks before the baby is born so they can be close to Starship where they will face their toughest challenge of their lives.
The costs of being away from home at the other end of the country soon amount up and we want these lovely people to have as much support around them as possible. The journey ahead is a big one, but we are all here for these beautiful people and I know through everyone’s love and support they will have the courage and strength they need to face this challenge for their gorgeous girl 💗
I’m Lou’s sister & wanted to set this up to help out Lou, Ryan & Hugo at this challenging time. With the unknown ahead, we are all here to help this beautiful family 100% & I know there are so many people out there that want to do the same. This financial support will take one thing off their mind @ this difficult time living so far from home.
Funds will be used to support Ryan, Louise and Hugo while in Auckland and to go towards costs associated with being away from home for several weeks while they face their toughest challenge yet of supporting their baby through a lifesaving operation x
Harriet Arrives in the Deep South! 16 October 2019
After 7 and half weeks the King family are finally back in the Deep South and oh it is so good to be home!!
After sign off from the medical and surgical team at Starship, Harriet and I were transferred to Invercargill hospital to continue her care and help get her feeding up and running. Receiving this news that we were heading south and were one step closer to home was extra special. We were ready to be back home and introduce Harriet to the cooler temps and constant rolling rrrs.
On the 9th October, Harriet and I boarded a Life Flight bound for Invercargill. A big thank you to the incredible medical and flight team for taking such good care of us and getting us back home safely.
Following a few nights stay in Invercargill hospital for monitoring and feeding support, we have been discharged home (YAY!!) with lots of wrap around support to ensure Harriet continues to be closely monitored and cared for.
We are loving being a little family of four and Hugo is absolutely smitten with his baby sister!
We honestly can not thank everyone enough for their love and generosity over this time. This journey has been one hell of a ride this far and has certainly tested our strength and bravery but we could not be more proud of Harriet Jane. Every day she has shown her strength and courage and that she truely is little heart warrior.
We will return to Starship when Harriet is 6 months old for her next open heart surgery and the next step in our journey.
Thank you again and we love you all!
Love The Kings x
